The future today: smart medical devices

International experts from industry and academia to discuss smart medical devices at the 2018 RegMed Forum on 18 October

29 August 2018
Intelligent technologies like biotechnology are affecting almost all aspects of medicine. Smart medical devices are already being used increasingly, be it 3D-printed biomaterials for cartilage or tissue replacement or intelligent implants with integrated biosensors. At this year's RegMed Forum, on 18 October in Berlin, international experts from industry and academia will discuss the use, the conditions for approval and the future applications of these products.

The Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) and Berlin Partner for Business and Technology GmbH are joint organisers of the RegMed Forum 2018 - Smart Medical Devices on 18 October in Berlin. At the Auditorium Friedrichsstraße - Quartier 110, international experts from industry and academia will discuss current and future trends in the development of intelligent medical devices and how those devices will improve treatment.

"Biologization and digitization allow innovative approaches, which will fundamentally change medical care for some patients groups. At the same time, the approval conditions for new products, whether from cells or as a medical device, are also changing, "explains Professor Georg N. Duda, Director of the Julius Wolff Institute for Biomechanics and Musculoskeletal Regeneration, Deputy Director of the BCRT and one of the speakers at this year's RegMedForum. In addition to the question of which innovations are feasible, the demonstration of clear clinical benefit of such innovations is more and more at the center of research and development. "We want to face up to these challenges at this year's RegMed Forum," summarizes Duda.

Attendees of the conference can expect a comprehensive program covering the latest trends in intelligent medicine, presented by eminent speakers from Europe and the United States. National and international companies will be showcasing their products, services and technologies at the industrial exhibition, thus enabling direct networking with science. Admission is free.
